The best dream interpretation apps in 2026, ranked by what they actually do
Last updated: October 2026
The best dream interpretation app depends on what you want from it. For readings in the Jungian method, with every dream kept so an image can be followed across months, we rank Coniunctio first. For on-device privacy, Hypnos. For several interpretive voices at a low price, Lunicia. For voice capture and weekly pattern reports, Dreamly. For lucid dreaming, Oniri. For access to a human psychologist, DreamApp.
Coniunctio publishes this page and makes one of the apps on it. So the ranking uses one stated criterion: depth of interpretive method and continuity across dreams. On price, platform or lucid-dreaming tools the order would change, and the "best for" line on each app says where it leads. Every competitor fact below comes from the app's own site or App Store listing, checked on 7 October 2026. Where an app does not publish something, we say so.
How we compared them
We looked at what each app says it does, not at marketing adjectives. Six questions matter most when choosing a dream app: which interpretive method it uses, whether it remembers earlier dreams and surfaces patterns, whether it limits how much of a dream you can enter, what it costs, where it runs, and what it publishes about your data. Prices are the US App Store in-app purchase lists unless noted, so they may vary by country and over time.

The ranking
1. Coniunctio: best for Jungian depth and continuity
Coniunctio reads a dream in the Jungian method and nothing else. Every symbol in the dream is amplified through your associations and through parallels in myth and culture, then drawn into one synthesis with interpretation options rather than a verdict. Each reading ends in one ritual, and you can ask follow-up questions on every reading. Dreams up to 5,000 characters are read in full. Every dream is kept, so an image can be followed across months. It is the most expensive app here by a wide margin, priced against Jungian analysis ($150 to $300 a session) rather than against other apps. Monthly has a 7-day trial and annual a 14-day trial, with a 30-day money-back guarantee; the first reading needs no account. It runs in the browser, with no native app.
2. Hypnos: best for on-device privacy
Hypnos reads each dream through four named lenses, one of them Jungian, which makes it the closest of the general apps to a method reading. Its strongest claim is privacy: the site states that dreams stay on your device, and its App Store label reads Data Not Collected. It tracks recurring symbols and moods over weeks and months. It is iPhone-only and requires a recent iOS. At $5.99 a month it is inexpensive. It had no App Store ratings yet when we checked.
3. Lunicia: best for several interpretive voices at a low price
Lunicia gives each dream to a "Dream Council" of four AI analysts: Freudian, Jungian, spiritual, and a skeptic. It builds a personal Dream Profile and says its guides remember last month's dreams, which addresses the memory problem directly. It adds Apple Health sleep sync and a lucid-dreaming coach. The free tier allows 3 AI interpretations a month, and paid plans start at $4.99. It is new, with 7 App Store ratings at the time of checking.
4. Dreamly: best for voice capture and weekly pattern reports
Dreamly is built around catching a dream before it fades: you speak it, and it saves it to a journal with an interpretation drawing on "psychology, symbolism, and your emotional context." Its weekly report of recurring symbols and themes is a useful habit for people who want patterns without effort. It asks follow-up questions and can turn scenes into images. Its site states that entries are private and that anonymized, aggregated data may be used for analytics, research or commercial purposes.
5. Elsewhere: best for dream imagery and scholarly symbol sources
Elsewhere generates an image for each dream and detects the symbols that recur in your journal, giving you an insight when a character or setting returns. Its interpretive sources are named, which few apps manage: symbol interpretations by David Fontana and thematic insights by the dream researcher Kelly Bulkeley. Charts show what you dream about by week, month or year. Premium is $4.99 or $49.99 on the App Store, with credits for extra images.
6. Oniri: best for lucid dreaming and a full-featured journal
Oniri, formerly Capture, describes itself as the most complete app for dream journaling, and its feature list supports the claim. Its site cites "300,000+ dreamers." Its lucid-dreaming toolkit is extensive: reality-check reminders, night cues, and guided tracks for WILD, MILD and SSILD. The AI interpretation asks questions to deepen the reading, and modules for trends, correlations and nightmares show patterns. Dreams can be exported to PDF, TXT or CSV. It holds 4.6 stars from about 3,800 App Store ratings.
7. DreamApp: best for access to a human psychologist
DreamApp's distinctive feature is human: its App Store listing says it connects you to a board-certified psychologist specializing in dream analysis, alongside an AI chat that asks about your dream and your circumstances. Its site reports "1.6M Downloads" and "3.9M Dreams Analyzed." Plans include weekly, monthly and annual options, some with expert dream reviews.
8. Temenos Dream: best for sharing dreams with a community
Temenos Dream combines dream dictionaries, sleep research and spiritual frameworks in its interpretation, and tracks recurring symbols. Its distinctive feature is social: Dream Circles let you share and discuss dreams with friends or other users. It states that every dream you log is encrypted. It holds 4.8 stars from 688 App Store ratings, and offers single dream enhancements at $5.99 as well as a subscription.
Where general chatbots fit
Many people skip apps and paste dreams into ChatGPT. That works for a single curious dream. It keeps no dated dream record and tracks no patterns, and its method changes with your phrasing. We compare the two in detail in can ChatGPT interpret my dream?
What users report about dream apps
We read 250 recent App Store and Google Play reviews of dream apps and 108 Reddit posts. The same complaints recur across the category, whichever app they concern. Each points to something to check before you subscribe.
- Generic readings. Reviewers describe readings as "essentially just ChatGPT" or say "regular AI can do a better job." Check whether the app asks for your associations and names a method.
- Lost journals. "Lost all my saved dreams" is among the most painful reviews in the set. Check that export exists and that your journal is tied to an account, not only one phone.
- Length caps. One reviewer wrote that "there shouldn't be a word limit on a dream interpreter." Long dreams are often the important ones. Few apps publish their limits, so test with a long dream before paying.
- Data sharing. "Shares your data" appears in reviews more than once. Read the App Store privacy label, which is standardized and quick to compare.
- Subscription friction. Trials that convert without warning and refunds that are hard to get account for many one-star reviews. Check the trial length and the refund terms before entering a card.
Verdict
If you want to remember more dreams or learn to dream lucidly, Oniri is the most complete choice. If privacy decides it, Hypnos keeps dreams on the device. If you want several perspectives cheaply, Lunicia and Dreamly are both strong and inexpensive. If you work with dreams in the Jungian tradition, or are in analysis and dream more than one session can hold, Coniunctio is built for that and nothing else: one method, every symbol amplified, every dream kept. It costs more because it is priced as a companion to analysis, not as a journal.
Dreams the session can't hold, read in the method.
Every symbol amplified, one synthesis, one ritual and follow-up questions, with every dream kept so an image can be followed across months.

Common questions
What is the best dream interpretation app?
It depends on the goal. For Jungian readings with every dream kept so an image can be followed across months, Coniunctio. For on-device privacy, Hypnos. For lucid dreaming and a full journal, Oniri. For voice capture and weekly pattern reports, Dreamly. For access to a human psychologist, DreamApp.
Which AI is best at interpreting dreams?
No single AI is best for every dreamer. General assistants such as ChatGPT give a quick first pass but keep no dream history. Dedicated apps add memory and pattern tracking. For interpretation in the Jungian method specifically, a tool built on that method, such as Coniunctio, is the closer fit.
What is the best app for a dream journal?
For a full-featured journal with lucid-dreaming tools and export, Oniri. For voice capture and weekly reports, Dreamly. For dream imagery and recurring-symbol insights, Elsewhere. For a journal read in the Jungian method, with every dream kept, Coniunctio.
Is there a free app that can interpret dreams?
Most dream apps are free to download with paid upgrades. Lunicia includes 3 AI interpretations a month at no charge, and Hypnos and Oniri are free to start. Coniunctio's first reading needs no account and costs nothing; a continuing practice is part of the paid plan.
What is the best online tool for dream interpretation?
Coniunctio runs in the browser on any device, with no install, and reads dreams in the Jungian method. Most of the other apps compared here are distributed through the App Store and Google Play. General chatbots such as ChatGPT also run online, but keep no dream record and follow no fixed method.
